Largest Selling Weeekly Chooses J&G Tuesday 27th May 2008
The KM Group has awarded a one year rolling waste management contract to J&G Environmental, Blandford-based specialists in the recycling and disposal of printers waste.
The KM Group is a major communications force in the Kent area with a portfolio of over 30 newspapers, nine niche publications and eight websites. The Kent Messenger, which celebrates its 150th anniversary next year, is the flagship publication of the Group and the largest selling weekly newspaper in the UK.
In addition to handling the collection, recycling and disposal of all hazardous waste as well as pallets, aluminium cans and polywrap from the Group's head office and print works in Aylesbury, a major feature of the contract is that J&G will also collect redundant IT waste and ensure its disposal complies with the Waste and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive.
J&G will also collect waste, mainly polywrap and cardboard, brought in to Aylesbury from the Group's 16 offices spread across Kent. This operation is co-ordinated by number of Green Champions, volunteers who have an interest in making their office as green as possible.
Paul Harfleet, KM Group purchasing manager said that ensuring everything possible was done to minimise impact on the environment was an essential part of the Group's operations.
"We also look to choose suppliers, like J&G, whose environmental credentials effectively demonstrate their commitment to helping ensure a greener future. Since working with J&G we have been very impressed by the high level of service they provide at all levels."
"With J&G's help now have a waste management system in place which ensures we have a record of exactly what is happening to our waste streams."
J&G's comprehensive waste management service is designed to maximise the printing industry's recycling potential. Currently over 90 percent of the waste collected is effectively recycled.
