Extract from Internal Company Newsletter Wednesday 28th February 2007
We started this year, as always, with the company meeting at the Crown Hotel on 3rd January. Steve was hobbling and in pain with his back and who can forget our lovely Bill making his entrance dressed as a student complete with wig and T shirt - even if it wasn't right on cue!
What a roller coaster of emotions we've had since then.
Bill's presentation was informative and entertaining and none of us would have thought that would be the last time we saw him. It's a memory that's good to keep and will bring a smile to our face when we remember Bill.
Bill sadly suffered a rare form of stroke and after a short spell in hospital passed away. Everyone at J&G has their own memories and what is unique is that all of them are good. Bill's death left the whole of J&G reeling from shock and it has been difficult to pick ourselves up again. He was everybody's friend and would do anything to help anybody, and that's part of what made him ideal for the role of customer care.
The sad announcement has appearead within trade magazines and copies of these have been sent to Carole, his widow who is coping with true grit that Bill would be proud of. His funeral took place on 14th February with a large contingency of staff from J&G attending. The church was packed and Ian Paulley gave a reading that brought a chuckle to many people. We will all miss Bill and our thoughts are with Carole and their children and grandchildren.
