Polestar Opt For Waste Management Contract Friday 21st January 2005
The Polestar Group has awarded a waste management contract to J&G Environmental, Blandford-based specialists in the recycling and disposal of printers waste.
Resulting from a three year working relationship between the two organisations, the formal contract means that J&G will collect, recycle and dispose of all general print waste, including litho plates and used chemicals, from all the Group's existing sites as well as the new Sheffield gravure facility when it opens later this year.
Welcoming the agreement, J&G's customer care manager Richard Spreadbury said: "We are very pleased to have a contract with Polestar because the Group has such a very forward-thinking approach to ensuring it meets, or exceeds, its environmental responsibilities".
The correct management of waste is an important element in Polestar's growing commitment to ensure every company in the Group develops and maintains procedures that minimise environmental impact. An internal committee, charged with responsibility for legislative compliance, has been set up to monitor environmental performance.
Alan Cray, Polestar Group Paper & Purchasing Manager, said: "The new three year Group supply agreement reflects J&G's consistent professional, responsible and proactive approach. This has been a key factor in creating the platform for a long term Strategic Alliance Partnership."
J&G looks after the waste disposal needs of around 1500 UK print companies. They dispose of around three million litres of printers' toxic waste per annum, collect over 6000 tonnes of litho plates, as well as plastic containers, wooden pallets and used fluorescent lamp tubes. The company currently recycle or reuse nearly three-quarters of the waste they collect and is aiming to achieve 85 per cent in the near future.
