J&G Announce Acquisition Deal
Thursday 16th October 2008
J&G Environmental, the high profile Dorset-based print industry waste management specialist, has announced its acquisition by Cleansing Service Group (CSG).
J&G's multi-award winning service, with its pioneering concentration on advanced environmental waste management and recycling, will be added to CSG's extensive nationwide resources in a deal which the companies say will "create the most comprehensive specialist waste management facility yet available to the printing industry."
The merger brings together two long-established, family-owned companies with a combined annual turnover of some £65 million.
J&G, which manages the waste collection and disposal needs of over 2000 UK print houses and newspaper groups from its Blandford headquarters, was formed in 1985 by its joint managing directors, husband and wife team Steve and Julie Armstrong. Since then, it has grown to become a £20 million business dedicated to increasing the industry's recycling rates and environmental performance.
The company has a string of industry customer service and environmental awards to its name, including a Queen's Award for Sustainable Development, and was recently praised by a panel of senior independent industry experts for its "outstanding contribution to raising standards in the industry."
Southampton-based CSG is one of the country's most respected waste solution specialists. Established in 1934, it has expanded to become one of the largest privately-owned waste management groups in Britain, operating across many sectors with a customer base including Government departments, local authorities, utilities, major supermarket groups and garage chains.
The two companies have collaborated for many years, with CSG providing J&G with specialist print waste handling facilities at its Warrington site where huge volumes of print by-products are processed and recycled.
Steve Armstrong, who will be retaining his links with the group, said: "This is another major milestone in J&G's development and gives us a big opportunity to expand our role as the UK's most innovative print industry waste management supplier.
"It brings together the considerable resources of two well-established private companies who already enjoy strong working ties, reputations for excellent customer service and a shared concern for the
"From an operational point of view, it will continue to be business as usual at Blandford except that we'll be able to offer an even greater range of customer services to the industry at a time of heightened environmental awareness and increasingly tough waste handling legislation."
Welcoming the acquisition, CSG managing director Paul Quigley said: "We aim to create the most comprehensive waste management facility yet available to the printing industry by combining the quality of customer service and technical expertise for which both companies are known.
"Print industry waste streams frequently require specialist handling, and our two companies have been working together to put in place a whole range of highly-developed collection, technical and processing services to meet the special challenges they create."
