Award-Winning Dorset Company In The News

A Dorset waste management company made headlines at last week's annual Newspaper Awards gala evening held at the Hilton Hotel in London's West End.

Blandford-based J&G Environmental was named as runaway winner of the Supplier of the Year Award which is given for "world class service that has gone beyond the expected" in the news media production industry.

J&G was nominated for the award by Guardian Print and Media (GPM), publishers of The Guardian and The Observer, which appointed J&G in 2005 to manage waste at its East London Print Centre, one of the most advanced newspaper printing plants in the country.

GPM told the award judges that a waste management company was not the most obvious contender for the award, but it had no hesitation in nominating J&G which had provided "considerable experience and technical knowledge backed by first class customer services" and pioneered methods for recycling huge volumes of newspaper production waste.

The judges said J&G had won the hotly-contested award by a large majority.

"This supplier not only offered an excellent waste management service but also provided safe systems for employees. It is a superb example of how to deal with vital environmental and waste management concerns which will be a growing issue for the newspaper industry."

J&G, which last year became part of the Cleansing Service Group of companies, is based on Blandford's Holland Way Industrial Estate. It provides environmental waste management and recycling services to many of the UK's leading newspaper groups, as well as thousands of print houses.
